Volunteerism
Volunteers play significant roles in building communities, reaching out to the less privileged and spreading the message of making a difference. Their inspiring contributions have connected people and created vibrant caring societies. To promote and support volunteerism, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) set up Singapore Cares (SG Cares).
SG Cares aims to promote and create a dynamic volunteerism ecosystem in Singapore through collaborative efforts with various stakeholders such as public, community groups, schools and corporate entities. The online portal provides opportunities for anyone in the community who is keen to volunteer and for Non-Profit Organisations (NPO) to engage volunteers to support the work they do.

Partnering Volunteer Host Organisations (VHO)
SG Cares partners various Non-Profit Organisations or VHOs to create a conducive volunteer-centric culture within their organisations and collectively build a volunteerism ecosystem in Singapore.
SG Cares hopes to adapt and adopt innovative ideas and share best practices from its local and overseas counterparts to enable VHOs to engage volunteers with increased efficiency and effectiveness.

Engaging Volunteers
A volunteer is someone who provides time, services and talents out of his/her own free will to help others without expecting and receiving financial payment. Volunteering can be either formal, through a NPO, or informal, being involved directly in a community space. Volunteers are encouraged to take ownership and play an active role in making a difference in the community they live in.

Fostering Volunteer Leadership
We welcome volunteers who are passionate and have the desire to make a difference to step up as SG Cares’ Volunteer Leaders. Volunteer Leaders are trained and guided to create a positive experience for volunteers. We encourage Volunteer Leaders to be activists in the volunteerism scene by driving new initiatives which will benefit the community.

Engaging Communities
Volunteering is also about mutual help and giving, which can happen in the community, like between neighbours or the participants of a VHO programme. SG Cares' Vertical Kampong (VK) initiative seeks to raise this as a part of everyday life by building stronger communities through tapping on the communities’ strengths. VK works with residents, students and youths, NPOs and other community partners in volunteering projects and activities that bring people together, allowing them to contribute towards a "kampong", where support is just around the corner.
Specifically for students and youths, VK Lab is launched to provide a platform for idea exploration and for youths to be empowered to community build. Youths will enjoy experiential learning as they discover how they connect and develop assets for a more sustainable impact in the community.
