Volunteerism is traditionally associated with the social service sector, where people volunteer their services to various welfare organisations on an ad hoc or continuing basis. However, with the growing presence of other sectors like arts and culture, self-help, community, education, environment, health, heritage, sports and youth, volunteers have moved beyond serving only at voluntary welfare organisations.
Our volunteer host organisation (VHO) is any secular, non-political, non-profit or community organisation which engages volunteers in its operations, programmes or activities. VHOs include volunteer-run organisations (like Cat Welfare Society), those that employ full-time or part-time staff to administer volunteer-driven programmes (such as ACRES – Animal Concerns Research & Education Society) and fully-staffed organisations offering specific programmes supported by many volunteers (e.g., tutoring children at Methodist Welfare Services).
We would like to invite VHOs to partner SG Cares in our new initiative. Our staff will work with them to understand their needs, create meaningful ad hoc volunteer projects and recruit volunteers for them. |
